The Volcanic Eruption Seen From Space
Published June 28, 2016
In 2009 the International Space Station (ISS) passed over the volcano Sarychev Peak just as it erupted.
This enabled the astronauts aboard to take amazing shots of the smoke plume rising high in the atmosphere. The video is a composition of several photographs, and gives you an idea of how it must have been to pass over the volcanic eruption. Sarychev Peak lies on the uninhabited Matua Island off the east coast of Russia. No one was harmed during the eruption.
