Gallium - The Metal That Melts In Your Hand

Updated June 27, 2019
Gallium is a metal with a melting point just above room temperature. This allows the metal to melt in your hand.
The element gallium may be a metal, but unlike most other metals it melts at a very low temperature. Gallium's melting point is only about 30 °C (86 °F),[1] and that makes the metal fun to play with. The metal is solid at room temperature, but will melt in the palm of your hand, only to freeze again when released. The foremost area of use for gallium is in semiconductors. It is also possible to buy pure gallium to just have fun with. Pure galium is harmless to touch, but can leave stains.
