The largest diesel engine in the world has a lenght of 27 m (88 ft 7 in) and propels huge container ships.
The photo shows Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C - the largest diesel and marine engine in the world[1] - an engine that propels some of the largest container ships out there. The biggest and most modern engine version - Wärtsilä-Sulzer RT-flex96C - has 14 cylinders, a lenght of 27 m (88 ft 7 in), a height of 13,5 m (44 ft 4 in), weighs over 2 300 tonnes and has attained a power of 84.42 Megawatts (114,800 bhp).[1] Wärtsilä-Sulzer RT-flex96C powers, among other ships, the giant Emma Maersk (lower photo).
